This research brief presents findings from NACCHO's April 2014 survey of accredited local health departments. The objectives were to develop a preliminary list of benefits from pursuing and achieving accreditation, to determine the technical assistance needs of accredited local health departments, and to verify anecdotal information from the field. Findings indicate that local health departments that achieve accreditation find both the process and the status beneficial. The most common benefits relate to staff knowledge and satisfaction.
