This research report presents results from the 2010 NACCHO Informatics Needs Assessment. The study aimed to build a picture of local health departments' structure, capacity, and function regarding public health data. Local health departments might use the survey findings to compare their situation to the national average, which can then inform local policy. Researchers may link the information to other data sets to build an even deeper understanding of local health departments and public health practice. Universities and other tertiary education institutions can use the information to educate future public health workforce members about local health departments, including the potential for career paths in public health informatics.
