NACCHO has released 2014 Forces of Change, a series of five research briefs that contain findings on the forces that affect change in the nation’s local health departments (LHDs). In a tight fiscal climate, many LHDs are rethinking their role in the changing healthcare landscape. Many decisions have affected the scale and scope of services LHDs provide to their communities. For example, LHDs reported more expansions than reductions in population-based services in 2013. With the exception of immunization (where LHDs that are reducing services greatly outnumber those expanding them), similar proportions of LHDs reported expansions and reductions in clinical service program areas. Learn more about how economic and political forces affected LHD service changes during 2013.
