On April 17 , NACCHO released the “2013 Network Profile of the Medical Reserve Corps” report, a comprehensive look at the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) network. The MRC is a national network of over 200,000 volunteers organized into nearly 1,000 local units across the United States and was formed after the Sept. 11, 2011 attacks as a way for citizens to respond after a crisis. Now in its second decade, the MRC's reach and impact have grown tremendously. To examine key opportunities and challenges of the MRC network, NACCHO launched national survey in the Spring of 2013. Thanks to an outstanding 87 percent response rate, the upcoming report will paint a fuller picture of the MRC network as a whole. The report will allow readers to gain a better understanding of how local MRC units fill valuable and critical roles in their communities to enhance their public health and emergency preparedness capabilities.
